Sick Puppies steal the show!

Posted in General Info with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 28, 2011 by peeka02

I saw Sick Puppies on Friday April 16, 2010. They were playing in Greenville, SC with Breaking Benjamin and Nickelback. I’ll be honest and say that I made the two hour drive in anticipation of seeing Breaking Benjamin perform. I’ve been to Nickelback concerts in the past, but until Friday, I hadn’t seen Sick Puppies or Breaking Benjamin in concert. In fact, although the name Sick Puppies was known to me, I was not very familiar with their music. That being said, I didn’t really know what to expect when they hit the stage.

To say that I was surprised at the Sick Puppies’ performance would be an understatement. In my opinion, they completely stole the show. Emma really rocked that stage! I really wish that they would have had more time to perform. Honestly, I spent the rest of the show wishing that the Sick Puppies could come back out and play more songs. Breaking Benjamin’s performance was okay and Nickelback was great (as they tend to be), but Friday night, I became a huge Sick Puppies fan.

Once the show was over, I made sure to stop by the merchandise stand and buy the Tri-polar CD. I was thrilled that the CD came with the Live and Unplugged CD, but meeting the band and having them sign my merchandise was by far the best experience that I’ve ever had at a concert. I’ve never had the privilege of meeting a band before, and Sick Puppies gave me my first autographs. I was very psyched!

Now, less than a week later, I can say that I know the Sick Puppies Tri-Polar CD. In fact, I’m listening to it right now. I love the band’s sound and the lyrics are great! So thank you Shimon, Emma, and Mark, for the great show, the great CD, and most importantly, the more than amazing experience!

P.S. Be sure to pick up your copy of Sick Puppies newest album “Polar Opposite” tomorrow (March 1, 2011) at Wal-Mart or Amazon.com!! Less than $10, what are you waiting for??

SP Live & Unplugged EP – Ambassador Review

Posted in General Info with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 19, 2011 by peeka02

The new Sick Puppies Unplugged EP shows us a side of the band that we don’t usually get to see at the shows. Nothing shows a band’s talent more than when they strip away all the effects and studio equipment, and still perform just as good, if not better. That’s exactly what you get on the Unplugged EP – 4 great acoustic songs! “Odd One,” “So What I Lied,” (personally one my favorite songs off Tri-Polar), “Pretender,” and “You’re Going Down” (a song I never would have thought could go acoustic, but it did, and it rocks!). If you’re a fan of the band and want to see a more personal take on their songs, check it out. Heck, even if you’ve never heard of the band, you should still check it out; you‘ll love it. For less than $5 on iTunes, you can’t really go wrong. If you’re planning on seeing them this summer, maybe you could even get the band to sign it while you’re at it. Overall, it’s awesome – and perfect to hold us over until the next album drops!

Sick Puppies love their fans!

Posted in General Info with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 24, 2011 by peeka02

When Sick Puppies are in town, I buy an extra ticket for my sister. It’s something we like to do together. Lately, she’s been going through a rough time. Her husband is deployed in Afghanistan. So when the Pups were in town in November, I figured going to a show would cheer her up.

We were at the show, and she mentioned wanting to buy her husband a shirt and get it autographed for him. I told her I had no idea he listened to their music. It turns out she sent him their CD in a care package, and from then on, he was hooked. She was so worried Shim was going to say no to personalizing the t-shirt with a message. It’s so funny because the whole time in line, she was still contemplating whether or not to ask. I told her, “This is Sick Puppies. They love their fans. All you have to do is ask.”

We get to the front and she explained that this was for her husband, who is a huge fan of their music. Of course, Shim told her he would be happy to write something. Originally, she asked him to write, “To Vince, Marie is the best.” Instead, he wrote, “To Vince, Marie is the sh*t!” It was awesome and her husband loved it. They never seem to surprise me, on how they go above and beyond for their fans.

YOUR Sick Puppies Story – Blog Contest – Category #3

Posted in General Info with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on January 16, 2011 by peeka02

Here is the winner from Topic #3: “Which was your most rockin’ Sick Puppies concert?”

The most memorable Sick Puppies concert would have to be their stop in Parkersburg, West Virginia at the Eagles Club on September 17th, 2010. The concert came on as kind of a surprise as I planned on going to X-Fest the following day, but after hearing of the Puppies headlining a little more than an hour away, it was a no-brainer on where I wanted to go. I arrived to the club, and just by looking from the outside, I could tell this place was small and it was going to be a great place for a concert. We stood in line for around an hour while being entertained by Radio Station 103.1, “The Bear” with good music and a cool interview with the band.

When the doors finally opened, we rushed inside in an attempt to grab the rail, or in this case, a chain-link fence which seemed to be one of the least sturdy or safe rails I have stood against – approximately a foot from the stage. My girlfriend insisted on positioning ourselves on Shim’s side of the stage despite my pleas to be on the right side. She has won that fight at each and every Sick Puppies concert to date…lol. This venue was one of the smallest I have been in. The stage was very small and the ceilings were only 10-12 feet high. A very intimate setting to say the least. The first few bands were local and ok at best, but I didn’t really care, I was there to see the Pups. The band had an amazing and solid setlist consisting of 14 songs including 2 acoustic songs, “All The Same” and “What Are You Looking For.” We rocked out for nearly one and a half hours, enjoying all of Shim’s funny faces and comments, accompanied by Emma’s eye rolls. The crowd was enthusiastic and loud to say the least as they fed off of the band’s energy.

The Puppies ended with “You’re Going Down” with the crowd going wild. Emma came down the front row after that song handing out a couple of her picks before going off stage, and I was the lucky last person she handed one to; it’s by far the favorite guitar pick in my collection. A few minutes after the set ended, James was on stage and he handed me the setlist that was on Shim’s monitor. We then headed to the autograph line which wasn’t too long. After 10 minutes of waiting, we made it to the front. I had the D.U.A.L Advanced CD and regular copy along with my setlist. Emma grabbed the advanced copy and immediately began inspecting it. She handed it to Shim and they both asked me where I got it. That was pretty cool because they acted like neither of them had seen it before.

I have been to many concerts before; this one seemed to surpass the rest. It was an experience I will never forget, and probably will never see another one like it. I’m looking forward to seeing them again in a couple weeks in Lexington!

Here is the winner from Topic #2: “What is your favorite Sick Puppies song?”

Although picking a favorite Sick Puppies song is hard because I love them all, I’d have to go with “All the Same.” I had never watched the Free Hugs video until after I was a Sick Puppies fan and had seen them live, and I’d only heard the song a few times, but it quickly became my favorite. To me, the song is about caring unconditionally for someone you love. This could mean a significant other, a friend, or a family member. It’s saying no matter where you’ve been or what you’ve been through, I’m here for you; all that matters is that you’re here now. The song could be interpreted in so many different ways and it could be therapeutic to people in many situations. It could be about making up, if you get into a tiff with someone you care about, it could represent putting your differences aside and concentrating on your unconditional caring for one another. It could also be about acceptance, and telling someone that whatever choices you make and wherever you go, I’m here and I always will be. The best part is that it doesn’t have to be about any of this, it can just be about love. Even if there’s never been a conflict, the song can just mean telling someone that no matter what, I’m always going to care for you because you’re you and no choice or other factor can ever change that. It’s a way of showing you care for the person they are, not for the color of their skin, the money they have, the clothes they wear, or the choices they make – just the person inside. For me, the song is what I wish more people felt like. “Wrong or right, black or white, if I close my eyes, its all the same.” Who cares if you look different from someone else? If you close your eyes to the physical, people are people. There’s someone to connect to every one of us; we all have hopes and feelings and things we want out of life. The continuing rise of Sick Puppies gives me the hope that this song will reach more and more people and speak to them in the way it has spoken to me, that it could soften the hard hearts of some and inspire others to look at what really matters. If you care about someone, a love, friend, relative, whatever, care for them, not for the material things that will fade away. Who knows, if you show that kind of caring it could be reciprocated one day when you really need it.
